Dual Survival Cancelled?

Dual Survival Cancelled

After Discovery Channel announced that Dave Canterbury will no longer appear in the show, many people started googling “Dual Survival cancelled” to find out if there’s going to be another season of the show. If you would like to find out the answer to this question as well as learn more about the show in general, please keep reading.

Was Dual Survival Cancelled?

In a word: no, it wasn’t cancelled. There is a third season of Dual Survival (you can watch it on Amazon). However, the show unfortunately doesn’t feature Dave Canterbury as he had to leave the show (we’ll explain why in a second). The new guy is Joseph Teti, a veteran of both US military and US government special operations units. He is the “badass” now, and Cody is still the shoeless hippie who we all love.

The new third season of Dual Survival includes 11 episodes (the third season was supposed to have 13 episodes but only 11 were completed). Joe and Cody will show you how to survive in places such as Chile’s Atacama Desert, South African bush, New Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert, the Amazon River in Ecuador or a deserted island in Fiji. It’s chock-full of survival tips in many different terrains as well as funny Cody’s remarks – things we all fans of Dual Survival love.

Where is Dave?

Discovery Channel chose not to renew the contract with Dave Canterbury after they found out that Dave’s military resume included false claims. Canterbury falsely claimed that he served in Central America, Grenada, Korea and the US. Dave also claimed that he has “20 years of survival skills experience, including ranger, survival, scout and airborne training and service in Central America”. In fact, he was in the Army only for six years and his military service records don’t include neither Grenada nor Central America (he only served in Korea).

Here’s Dave’s explanation:

And here’s an official Cody’s press release:

Cody Lundin Announces Dual Survival Changes

Prescott, June 13,2012 – As this has already been publicly confirmed, Dave Canterbury is no longer a part of Dual Survival. This fact has been true since September of 2011.

I have faced many questions regarding this change and much has been said on the Internet as well. Any inquiries regarding this matter should be directed to Discovery Channel. However, since I have no doubt that the questions will continue, and I have an ethical and professional responsibility to do so, I am making the following statement.

The goal of the survival instructor is to keep people alive. To accomplish this goal, honesty, integrity, trust and competence must come first. These core values cannot be compromised or people’s lives are needlessly put at risk. In a profession where human lives are at stake, dishonesty about ones background and experience is an inexcusable breach of trust.

I have dedicated my life to this profession. It is my passion and livelihood and I have spent the past 23 years developing expertise in it. I hold the responsibility of being a survival skills instructor as sacred. It is incumbent upon all of us in this field to insist that the highest standards of honesty, integrity and honor are maintained at all times.

For all of the aforementioned reasons, I am proud to work with my new Dual Survival partner as we take the show to even greater levels. This is my final statement on the matter at this time. To my fans and to those who have offered support during this very challenging time, I offer my greatest gratitude and thanks.

Cody Lundin

Unfortunately Dave won’t be coming back to the show and we will probably never see him in any TV survival show again. What about the new guy? Joe’s appearance gets mixed reviews. Some people claim that he has a lot of experience, but doesn’t quite match up to Dave. Others criticize Joe for his stunts and tricks that would get most people killed in a survival situation (such as killing a boar in episode 4). What we know for sure is that Cody personally chose Joseph Teti, and he trusts his experience so we should learn pretty much from this guy (even if we miss old Dave!).

Here’s a video introducing Joe:

I would personally like to see Dave back, but since it isn’t possible, at least I’m happy that Dual Survival wasn’t cancelled. I’d much rather watch new episodes with Cody and Joe than no new episodes at all. You can buy the entire show on Amazon.com.

It was confirmed that there will be a fourth season of Dual Survival. We’ll update this article once we know more about it.
